User’s Guide to the OpenNMS ServiceNow Plugin

ServiceNow is an IT service management platform widely used for incident, change, and asset management. This plugin integrates OpenNMS with ServiceNow, enabling automatic forwarding of network alarms and asset inventory data to ServiceNow via its REST API.

When a network alarm is raised in OpenNMS, the plugin filters it by UEI and node category, enriches it with topology information, and sends an alert record to ServiceNow. In parallel, the plugin periodically discovers network devices and access points from OpenNMS node inventory and synchronises them as assets in ServiceNow, maintaining a local cache to send only changes.
